Bruce E. Boyer As President and Chairman of American Senior Living Communities, Bruce Boyer presides over the company's Board of Directors and oversees the company's current operations and future growth. A founding principal, Mr. Boyer brings an extensive background in both senior housing and long-term care to the company. Before starting American Senior Living Communities in 2005, Mr. Boyer co-founded American Heritage Communities, a multifacility continuing care retirement community (CCRC) network, in 2002. His vision for American Heritage Communities was to create continuing care retirement communities focusing on health, wellness, and prevention, and designed to enhance the retirement experience for baby boomers. Mr. Boyer still serves as Chairman of the Board. Mr. Boyer began his career in long-term care in 1972 and, as a licensed nursing home administrator, has managed and been an owner-operator of numerous long-term care facilities since that time. Currently the owner-operator of several skilled nursing facilities, Mr. Boyer has a record of success in helping those facilities achieve high levels of clinical and operational excellence, and exemplary ratings on state inspections. During his career, Mr. Boyer has also consulted on various planning committees for the development of CCRCs, has served in various positions in the senior care industry, and has served on the boards of and in various leadership roles for several hospitals and health networks. Mr. Boyer, a 1968 graduate of Andrews University, holds a BA in behavioral science. Over the course of his career, he also did graduate work in psychology at Andrews, and in healthcare administration at the University of Maryland. Robert Gibbs, a founding principal of American Senior Living Communities, serves as its Senior Executive Vice President. A savvy developer of both hotels, and senior housing and healthcare properties, Mr. Gibbs is responsible for coordinating our acquisitions, mergers, and financing. Prior to his involvement with American Senior Living, Mr. Gibbs co-founded American Heritage Communities, a multifacility CCRC network, with Mr. Boyer in 2002. Mr. Gibbs currently owns and operates a nursing home outside of his involvement with American Senior Living. As a real estate developer, Mr. Gibbs has been involved in the development of a number of high-end hotels and resorts in the United States and Latin America, and the redevelopment of several U.S. historic sites. Earlier in his career, Mr. Gibbs was involved in international banking. Joining Chase Manhattan Bank in 1969, Mr. Gibbs eventually became a lending officer for South and Central America. He joined Banco Real in 1975, where he was involved in the syndication of government securities. In 1977, Mr. Gibbs co-founded International Consolidated Industries, eventually becoming president. And in 1988, he founded Unipart Capital, to provide financial services and capital to domestic and global markets. Mr. Gibbs, who served in Vietnam for two years, holds a BA from Rutgers University, did post graduate study in Florence, Italy, and is an honors graduate in international finance and Latin American studies of Thunderbird School of Global Management, consistently ranked number one in the international MBA category by U.S. News and World Report. Jeffrey Barnhill, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, directs the financial operations and financial reporting for American Senior Living Communities. A founding principal of the company, Mr. Barnhill is also responsible for supporting the acquisitions, mergers, and financing that grows the business. Mr. Barnhill has worked in various capacities in the healthcare industry since 1979, serving at various times as a controller, reimbursement director, consultant, and chief financial officer for acute care, skilled nursing, and other long-term care providers. Mr. Barnhill’s experience includes holding and performing the responsibilities of the various positions in organizations that generated annual revenues in excess of $100 million, with locations in most states in the United States and in the Virgin Islands. Mr. Barnhill received a BA in accounting from Rollins College and an MBA from Nova University. He has been a member of the American Health Lawyers Association since 1979. Jim Flanagan joined American Senior Living in 2006 as its Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2009. In his current role, Mr. Flanagan is responsible for all aspects of American Senior Living’s operations and providing strategic planning for the company’s continued growth and operations. A licensed nursing home administrator and licensed assisted living administrator, Mr. Flanagan has 25 years’ successful experience developing, operating, and managing numerous senior services entities, including skilled nursing centers, assisted living facilities, independent living communities, continuing care retirement communities, and home health agencies. Prior to joining American Senior Living, Mr. Flanagan was a vice president at Senior Lifestyle Corporation in Chicago, Illinois, and Horizon Bay Senior Communities in Tampa, Florida. Mr. Flanagan currently serves as Chairman of the Rhode Island Assisted Living Residence Administrator Certification Board and is a member of the Rhode Island Long Term Care Coordinating Council, representing the assisted living industry. Mr. Flanagan is a past president of both the Rhode Island Health Care Association and the Rhode Island Assisted Living Association. He has also served on the boards of the American Health Care Association and the National Center for Assisted Living. Mr. Flanagan received his BS in healthcare administration from Providence College in 1984. Herb Kaiser is Chief Administrative Officer of American Senior Living Communities, and holds the same position simultaneously for several other healthcare and hospitality companies. Prior to coming to American Senior Living, Mr. Kaiser spent five years as executive vice president, administration and technology, and as secretary and treasurer of a continuing care retirement company. Mr. Kaiser has also served as manager, director, and vice president of several leading technology companies, and has extensive management experience in delivering information technology services. Mr. Kaiser served in the United States Air Force as a captain and C-141 pilot during the Vietnam War era, after earning a BS from Auburn University. As Director, Fiscal Services, for American Senior Living Communities, Rose Enright oversees the daily activity of its business office. Her primary responsibilities include monthly financial reporting, budget preparation, and coordination of the weekly accounts receivable review. For the 16 years immediately prior to joining the American Senior Living team, Ms. Enright worked as a property accountant for Horizon Bay Senior Communities, responsible for the accounting functions for eight communities. Counting her prior work experience, Ms. Enright has worked in nursing homes, assisted living facilities, and independent living communities for over 28 years. During that time, she gained invaluable expertise in Medicare and Medicaid nursing home billing and cost reporting. Ms. Enright, a licensed assisted living administrator, has completed many courses at local colleges and has taken numerous healthcare-related continuing education seminars. She currently serves as a member of the Medicare Provider Outreach and Education Advisory Group.
